3-Day Glacier National Park Itinerary from Haymoon Resort

Day 1: Scenic Drives & Wildlife Encounters

Morning:
Start your adventure early and take the legendary Going-to-the-Sun Road, one of the most scenic drives in the country. Enter through West Glacier, stopping at Lake McDonald for those postcard-perfect views and photo ops.

Afternoon:
Once you’ve made your way to Logan Pass, get out and stretch your legs on the Hidden Lake Overlook Trail or try the Highline Trail — both great choices for spotting wildlife and soaking in alpine beauty. (Check trail conditions and road status on the Glacier National Park website).

Evening:
After a full day, head back to Haymoon Resort to relax. One of my favorite ways to end the evening is around the fire pit or enjoying a meal on the deck. If you’re up for more, stargazing from the property is an unforgettable ways to cap off the night.

Day 2: Hiking & Glacier Adventure

Morning:
Pack a lunch and get an early start for a hike. Avalanche Lake Trail is one of our top picks — it’s scenic, rewarding, and doable for most guests. If you’d like something more leisurely, try the Trail of the Cedars. If you’re up for more of a challenge, the Trout Lake trail offers sweeping mountain views and high-alpine terrain.

Afternoon:
Cool off with something a little different — a guided rafting trip on the Middle Fork of the Flathead River. It’s a fun, family-friendly way to experience the park from a fresh perspective. (Check out outfitters like Glacier Raft Co.).

Evening:
After a full day, there’s nothing like coming back to your cabin at Haymoon. Whether you’re cooking dinner in your kitchen or winding down with a hot bath, this is where you’ll really appreciate the calm and space our property offers. We’ve created this setting to feel like a true retreat.

Day 3: Lakes, Trails & Local Flavor

Morning:
Take a final day to revisit your favorite spots, take a Red Bus Tour (this is great if you’ve been the one driving the whole time because you will have much more time to enjoy the views), or schedule a boat tour at Lake Mary or Lake McDonald.

Afternoon:
Grab lunch in town, browse local shops, or head back to your cabin to enjoy some downtime in the sun. The slower pace is part of what makes this place special.

Evening:
End your Glacier adventure back at Haymoon with a homemade dinner, a board game night, or a final walk around our beautiful and tranquil property. This is your time to breathe deep, reflect on the trip, and maybe even start planning the next one.

Tips for Visiting Glacier National Park

  • Reservation System: From May to September, parts of Glacier require a vehicle reservation. Be sure to book early via Recreation.gov.
  • Bear Safety: Carry bear spray and know how to use it — wildlife is part of the magic here.
  • Layers are Key: Weather can change quickly in the mountains, so pack accordingly.
  • Start Early: Parking at popular trailheads fills up fast — early birds get the best views.
